Day Pack

My day pack is realistically a 3 day pack, and it is a Voodoo Tactical pack which comes in black and OD Green.  It is outfitted with a 3 liter water bladder and carries all my necessary gear needed from a 1 day hike or a 3 day pack out. Of all my packs, this one is my favorite.

Algonquin Park

This was a four day back country camping trip which included four people and two canoes. We started out at a drop off point  around Pen Lake. We set out on our first lake crossing which was about 1 hour to our portage point. There was a exhausting 900 meter rough terrain and muddy portage with the canoes, having to make the trip twice to go back and get all the gear. We then set off on our second lake canoeing only about 30 minutes and found our camping spot for the next several days. The site was beautiful and quite with nobody around for miles. The campsites are far and few in between when you get into the back country. The weather was awesome until the last night, when we experienced a pretty severe thunderstorm. That morning we set out to return and were caught up by a second severe thunderstorm in the middle of our longest lake crossing. This was pretty scarey for myself as the rain was torrential along with lightning, and strong winds with white capping waves. The canoe swallowed up a couple of white caps but we never went down, it was close but we made it out of there safely.

Mount Nemo

Niagara Glen

This was a day hike down into the Niagara Glen in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada. The Niagara Glen is one of my favorite hiking locations and is located on the Niagara River bordering Canada and the United States. This hike ranges from basic to advanced and is filled with all kinds of ups, downs, twists and turns. You will feel an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility down in the gorge. I always explain it as being in like a Jurassic park type of setting with thousands of years of ice and water having carved away at the landscape leaving behind large boulders and crevasses cut out in the landscape. I must warn you, be very careful and aware of the water once down to it. Stay clear as the water levels can change up and down in a moments notice as it's controlled by a dam up river. This water flows from Lake Erie and crashes over Niagara Falls, making it's way to Lake Ontario.  On this hike we discovered a fresh water spring just running out of this hole in a rock that definitely came in at the right time as this day was a scorcher and we were running low on water. We staked our way around the trails and eventually made it to the Whirlpool. This is a very powerful back spinning vortex of water that collects hundreds of pounds of debris a year and just smashes it around like nothing. Truly a site to see.
