Algonquin Park

This was a four day back country camping trip which included four people and two canoes. We started out at a drop off point  around Pen Lake. We set out on our first lake crossing which was about 1 hour to our portage point. There was a exhausting 900 meter rough terrain and muddy portage with the canoes, having to make the trip twice to go back and get all the gear. We then set off on our second lake canoeing only about 30 minutes and found our camping spot for the next several days. The site was beautiful and quite with nobody around for miles. The campsites are far and few in between when you get into the back country. The weather was awesome until the last night, when we experienced a pretty severe thunderstorm. That morning we set out to return and were caught up by a second severe thunderstorm in the middle of our longest lake crossing. This was pretty scarey for myself as the rain was torrential along with lightning, and strong winds with white capping waves. The canoe swallowed up a couple of white caps but we never went down, it was close but we made it out of there safely.
